HOWE — Thursday afternoon's games in the fourth annual Howe Wood Bat Tournament at Lions Field saw one local team win and the host team lose.
The Whitesboro Bulldogs defeated the McCurtain Bulldogs 7-1 to advance to Saturday afternoon's winner's-bracket semifinal.
But the host team, the Howe Lions, fell 10-4 to the Clayton Bulldogs, which also advanced to Saturday afternoon's winner's-bracket semfinals.
Thursday night's late games had Cameron playing Smithville and Leflore meeting Wister.
The consolation side of the tournament will be completed today. Howe (5-8) will play the Cameron-Smithville loser at 3:30 p.m., followed by McCurtain meeting the Leflore-Wister loser at 5:30 p.m. The winners will play at 7:30 p.m. tonight for the consolation championship.
The winner's-bracket semifinals, third-place game and the title game will take place on Saturday, which has seen all four game times changed due to ACT testing that morning.
Clayton (13-7) will play the Cameron-Smithville winner at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in one championship semifinal, followed by Whitesboro (8-8) meeting the Leflore-Wister winner at 3:15 p.m. in the other championship semifinal.
The championship semifinal losers will meet for third place at 5 p.m. Saturday, while the winners will play for the title at 7 p.m. Saturday.
