WILBURTON — The Whitesboro Bulldogs basketball team knew after its dramatic comeback victory over the Kinta Eagles in Thursday night's game in the Class B Regional Tournament at Leflore that there was going to be at least one more game this week at the area tournament in Kingston.
Unfortunately for the ’Dogs, they will enter the Class B Area Tournament as regional runners-up as they suffered a 52-27 loss to the Red Oak Eagles in Saturday night's regional tournament title game at the Wilburton High School gym.
The Bulldogs (20-8) will play Bennington at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Class B Area Tournament, and will need three wins in as many days to make it to next week's state tournament.
Unfortunately for two other local teams, their seasons came to and end Saturday afternoon in the consolation finals of the Class B Regional Tournament.
The Leflore Savages lost 43-36 to the Kinta Eagles in the consolation finals after beating the Stringtown Tigers 51-33 on Friday night. The Savages, who suffered their first playoff loss one week prior when the Eagles beat them 55-39 in the Class B District Tournament finals at Kinta, ended their season at 15-12.
The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs suffered their second playoff loss to the Eagletown Lady Eagles, who posted a 51-40 win in Saturday afternoon's consolation finals. Eagletown beat Whitesboro exactly one week before in the Class B District Tournament finals 54-36 in Whitesboro.
The Lady Bulldogs, who finished the season at 17-11, reached Saturday afternoon's consolation finals with a 59-50 win over Pittsburg on Friday night to avenge a loss to the Lady Panthers in December at the Eastern Oklahoma State College Classic.
