The Wimp push-ups

November 15, 2013

JUBILANT JACQUES — Outdoor columnist Jody Adams' son, Jacques, left, hauled in this nice fish while fishing with friend, Asher Billy, on Veterans Day at Sawmill Holler on Lake Tenkiller. Photo by Jody Adams

I moved to Poteau on Veterans Day in 1977. The first thing I did was eat an “Arlie” burger from the A&M Food Market. I loved them, and I was hooked on them for life.
The second place I went was Wimp's Barber Shop to get a hair cut for the upcoming holidays. Exactly 36 years later, I was in Wimp's Barber Shop getting my son, Jacques, a haircut. Sherri was cutting his hair, while Wimp is cutting 4-year-old Kriston Rylan Stewart's hair. Kriston was getting a Marine-military style haircut — short. That's the haircut we always got for years. Kriston's dad is active in the military, so that's why he got a buzzcut like his dad.
Save the world, recycle.
God bless our troops and veterans.
Have a great weekend.
