WILBURTON â€” Wister's Clint Crane was named the Most Valuable Player of the 40th Kiamichi All-Star Classic Saturday afternoon.
Crane and the South defeated the North 12-5 at the Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball field. Crane's county victorious teammates were Talihina's Austin Lawson and Wister's Caleb Hill.
Representing the county in the North team were Poteau's Wilson Klutts and Blake Roley. How the local individuals did in the game was unavailable at press time.
The South defeated the North 1-0 in the softball game, played Saturday afternoon at the EOSC softball field. The only run was produced by Calera's Tashona Robinson, who was named the game's MVP. The South had three LeFlore County players on the team â€” Heavener's Jordan Kannady (who played in the Class 5A State Tournament earlier this month), Talihina's Cortney Williams and Whitesboro's Ivory Detter.
The North had Poteau's Briley Benson, Natalee King and Meagan Ryburn, Spiro's Tiffany Woods, Cameron's Cheyenne Adams, Howe's Kaylee Coffey and Whitney Johnson and Pocola's Erin Holderfield. How the local players did in the game was unknown at press time.
The South made it a sweep on the day as it took both basketball games Saturday night at EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse. The South girls handled the North 72-55, while the South boys got past the North 70-67.
In the girls' basketball game, the South led 41-30 at halftime. Talihina's Landry James and Chelsea Baggs each scored six points to help the South.
In defeat, Howe's Megan Brown scored 11 points, while Lady Lion teammate Brianna Hillebrand scored four points for the North. Oktaha's Whitney Brown was named the MVP scoring a game-high 18 points for the North.
Baggs won the 3-point shootout over Brown.
In the boys' basketball contest, the South led 38-26 at halftime, and had to withstand a second-half rally by the North â€” which outscored the South 41-32 in the final half â€” to make the game interesting.
Talihina's Hayden Dickson scored nine points for the South. Haworth's Quinton Threadgill scored 13 points to lead the South to get the MVP honor for the game.
In defeat, Cameron's Ryan Carter scored four points, Spiro's Tyh Hawkins scored three points and Klutts, Spiro's Devon Perry and Pocola's Grant Severe each scored two points. Panama's Anthony Milburn played for the North, but did not score.
