Wister boys on cusp of returning to state, upset No. 1 Byng Pirates

BYNG — Last spring, the Wister Wildcats baseball team saw its streak of making the state tournament come to an end. The ‘Cats are on the verge of starting a new streak.
The Wildcats upset Class A's top-ranked Byng Pirates on their home field to open play in the Class A Regional Tournament at Stokes Field.
The Wildcats (18-13) played the Latta Panthers later Thursday, with the winner advancing to next week's Class A State Tournament.
However, the Wister-Latta loser will have one more shot today to make state by winning the consolation championship game at 2 this afternoon against the winner of the Byng-Tushka game, which takes place at noon today.
