WISTER â€” For two LeFlore County baseball teams, one was a very ecstatic squad and the other was a very somber one.
The Wister Wildcats qualified for state for the fourth straight season, dating back to the 2010 spring season, as they defeated the Cameron Yellowjackets 13-4 in the consolation championship game of the Class A Regional Tournament Friday afternoon.
It capped off a two-game spurt of staving off elimination for the â€™Cats (21-3), who were upset by the â€™Jackets (21-9) in the very first day of the tournament Thursday afternoon by a score of 9-6.
Before beating Cameron, Wister had to withstand a challenge by the Wright City Lumberjax to win 5-4 to make it to the consolation championship.
While the Wildcats were celebrating Friday afternoon, the Yellowjackets were very heart-broken. The â€™Jackets missed out twice in making state. Not only did they lose Friday afternoon's consolation championship to Wister, but they lost Thursday night's championship game 8-7 in eight innings to Rattan (which beat Wright City 8-4 Thursday afternoon) to send the Rams to state.
