WISTER — For the fifth straight baseball season, the Wister Wildcats baseball team is heading to state.
The Wildcats defeated the Hartshorne Miners 7-1 Friday night to win the Class 2A Regional Tournament.
The Wildcats (22-2) will meet Oktaha at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Oklahoma City's Dolese Park.
The Miners eliminated the Pocola Indians 4-2 in the loser's-bracket final.
In the title game, the ’Cats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning, thanks to a three-run home run by Caleb Hill.
Wister then added single runs in the third, fourth and seventh innings for a 7-0 lead before the Miners avoided the shutout with a tally in the seventh.
In Pocola's loss to Hartshorne, the Indians (16-14) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI triple by Ricky Manzano.
After a scoreless second inning, the Miners scored twice in the third inning and once in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead after four innings.
Pocola's last run scored in the fourth inning to make it 3-2, but Hartshorne got that run back in the sixth inning.
