WISTER — The Wister Wildcats baseball team is in a very familiar spot — playing once more for a regional championship, and a trip to next week's Class 2A State Tournament.
The ’Cats, however, did not have an easy path to Friday's regional title game by any means. Wister had to stage two comebacks to get two victories in the opening day of the Class 2A Regional Tournament on Thursday.
Wister had to rally from a 1-1 tie to down the Hartshorne Miners 3-1 in the winner's-bracket final, which came on the heels of a 4-1 deficit rally to defeat the Haworth Lions 9-4.
The other LeFlore County team in the field, the Pocola Indians, split their two games in the regional. They eliminated the Lions 2-1 in the final game of the night on Thursday after opening up the regional with a 14-0 loss to the Miners.
The Indians and the Miners did battle Friday afternoon in the loser's-bracket final, with the winner meeting the Wildcats in the title game. If the Pocola-Hartshorne winner beats Wister, there will be a second title game — which is now slated for 1 p.m. this afternoon.
