It had to go the distance, but in the end it was the Wister Junior High School softball team which brought home the latest fast-pitch county championship.
The Lady Wildcats defeated the Spiro Lady Bulldogs 3-2 in the winner-take-all title game Saturday afternoon at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Spiro forced the second title game by winning the first championship game 6-5 over Wister.
Spiro was the team which survived the loser's bracket as the Lady Bulldogs defeated Heavener 4-3 in the loser's-bracket final, which came after Heavener's 4-3 victory over Poteau in the loser's-bracket semifinal to begin Saturday's action.
