Wister JH girls reach this afternoon's LeFlore County Tournament title game
The Wister Junior High School Lady Wildcats are a win away from winning the 2012 LeFlore County Junior High Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament, which is taking place at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.The Lady Wildcats are the only undefeated team in the tournament and will be in the title game at 12:30 p.m. this afternoon at the PARC. Wister posted wins over Howe, Panama and Spiro.The three other teams which are still alive in the tournmaent are Spiro, Poteau and Heavener. Spiro's loss to Wister put the Lady Bulldogs into the loser's-bracket final at 11:15 a.m. this morning against the winner of this morning's 10 a.m. Poteau-Heavener game. The 11:15 a.m. winner will then face Wister in the championship game, and must beat the Lady ’Cats twice.The tournament began on Tuesday. Opening-round games saw Talihina beat Arkoma, Spiro defeated Whitesboro, Pocola beat Leflore and Howe defeated Cameron.In the winner's-bracket quarterfinals, Heavener got past Talihina as Spiro did Poteau, Panama did Pocola and Wister did Howe.In Thursday's winner's-bracket semifinals, Spiro beat Heavener at the same time Wister beat Panama.In the opening-round of consolation play on Thursday, Pocola beat Arkoma, Howe beat Whitesboro, Talihina beat Leflore and Poteau beat Cameron. In the consolation second-round games, Pocola beat Howe, while Poteau downed Talihina.In the consolation quarterfinals, Heavener got past Pocola, while Poteau did likewise against Panama.
