TULSA — Tyler Gibson had his moments Tuesday night in the Small School All-State Baseball Game at J.L. Johnson Stadium on the campus of Oral Roberts University.
The 2013 Wister High School graduate came in relief of Caney Valley’s Kyle Knight in the sixth inning. In his two innings, he allowed a run on a hit, a walk and struck out a batter as the Small East beat the Small West 9-5.
“It was great,” Gibson said. “Coming out here and being able to close it, it was an honor to be able do it in the All-State Game."
Two Poteau wrestlers, Tyler Tustin and Derek Francis, were slated to wrestle for the East in the All-State Wrestling Dual Wednesday night at Bixby High School.
All-State Week will conclude with the All-State Football Game at 7 p.m. Friday at Union-Tuttle Stadium at Tulsa Union High School. The game will feature Poteau's Jay Werner and Talihina's Trevor Crone, who will be coached by Werner's father — and second-year Poteau coach — Greg Werner. It will be the last time that Greg Werner will get a chance to coach his son, Jay, before the All-State tight end prepares to play collegiately at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.
