WISTER — Three LeFlore County baseball teams found themselves late Friday in the winner’s bracket semifinals of the Wister Invitational Tournament, with one more win putting them into this afternoon’s title game.
Tournament host Wister had little problem with Hartford, Ark., winning 13-1 in three innings. That put the Wildcats into Friday night’s semifinal against local rival Whitesboro.
The Bulldogs avenged last week’s LeFlore County Tournament loss to Panama by downing the Razorbacks 9-5 — the same score the Hogs beat the ‘Dogs by in their opening-round county tournament game.
The ’Cats and the ’Dogs met Friday night with the winner playing for the tournament title at 4 this afternoon, while the loser will play for third place at 2 this afternoon.
On the other side of the bracket, Talihina met Red Oak late Friday afternoon with the victor playing the Wister-Whitesboro winner for the tournament title this afternoon.
The Golden Tigers handled the Howe Lions 12-2 in four innings, while the Eagles soared over the Wister junior varsity 10-1 in five innings.
The Talihina-Red Oak loser will play the Wister-Whitesboro loser for third place this afternoon.
The Lions will live to play another day in the event as they bested the Wister JV 9-3 in Friday afternoon’s consolation semifinals.
The Lions will meet the Panama Razorbacks in this afternoon’s consolation championship at high noon. The Hogs blanked Hartford 8-0.
