Stan L. Cottrell Sr.

Stan L. Cottrell Sr., 65, of Arkoma died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at his home after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born to Ernest and Emily Cottrell in Fayetteville, Ark., on July 11, 1949. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a good friend to many, always ready to help others and never expecting anything in return. He was a graduate of Waldron High School in 1967 and the College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. He held a Masters in Education Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.

Carl Piersant

Carl Piersant, 86, of Howe died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, in his home. He was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Youngstown, Ohio, to John and Josephine (Magdalena) Piersant.

He was a veteran of both the U.S. Air Force and Army. Carl was a member of the Heavener VFW, Poteau DAV and Heavener American Legion Post. He was a very active member of Immaculate Conception Church of Poteau where he loved to serve the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Ruby Piersant; brother, Pat Piersant; and three grandchildren.

Frances Ferrell Gray

Frances Ferrell Gray, 94, of Pocola died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 in Fort Smith, Ark.

Frances was born Jan. 23, 1921, to Elvis and Jennie (Ramsey) Cruson. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pocola. She played the piano. She worked at McKesson Wholesale Drug. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ella Jane Reaves; and sister, Alice Marie.

Survivors include her son-in-law, George Reaves of Pocola; grandson, Britt Reaves of Pocola; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Alyssa; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Allen Andrew Kersh

Allen Andrew Kersh, 95, of Shady Point died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, in Pocola.

Allen was born June 14, 1919, in Cowlington to Rufus Hugh and Maude (Jones) Kersh. He was a minister for more than 50 years, a carpenter, the Shady Point Fire Chief, a sharecropper and farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorene on Jan. 4, 2001; grandson, Shawn Kersh; great-grandson, Buddy Burleson; great-granddaughter, Alesha Billy; five brothers and three sisters.

Charles William “Bill” James

Charles William “Bill” James, 60, a retired Tulsa public school teacher, formerly of Poteau died Thursday, Jan. 22, in Tulsa.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Irene James of Poteau.

Bill is survived by his wife, Elisabeth James; sons, Andrew, Christopher and Vincent; daughter, April Rose of Broken Arrow; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and David Stimson of Wyoming; brother, Michael James of Poteau; and niece, Allie James of Poteau.

Serenity Funerals and Crematory of Tulsa is handling arrangements.

Robert E. Lee Pierce, 90, of Shady Point died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, in Shady Point.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Calhoun Baptist Church with Brother Steve Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Cameron. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home

Freda Fonzell Armstrong

Freda Fonzell Armstrong, 74, Poteau died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, in Poteau.
Freda was born Jan. 7, 1941 in Poteau to Bill and Ocie Bell (Harris) Walker. She was a 30-year dedicated Walmart employ-ee. She was a member of the Poteau Church of Christ. Freda was preceded in death by her father, Bill Walker; and brother, Billy Walker.

Joshua Wayne Black, 33, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, in Fort Smith.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Evans and Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Pocola with burial in Macedonia Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Hilda Reese, 70, of Spiro died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Flower Hill Pentecostal Church in Flower Hill. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
