This Sunday is Father’s Day. It will be my third Father’s
Day since we lost my dad. I never know how to feel on
Father’s Day since he is no longer a phone call or a short
drive away. Living without a parent is hard everyday but
even more so on days like Father’s Day. It’s specifically
bittersweet for my sisters, brother and I. You see our father
was only 54 when he died and it could have been pre-
vented.

though Poteau Public Schools will be without a superin-
tendent as of June 30 when Dr. Alice Smith is set to retire.
Of course rumors abound as to whether she is really going
to relinquish control of the position or not. It was, after-all,
according to several sources, Dr. Smith who placed the
item regarding Hank Harris on the agenda. The problem is
the same as it has always been, the school board has given
too much power to Dr. Smith.

The staff at PDN has had several reports of incidents of petty theft taking place at the Poteau Pool. Reportedly there have been several instances of minor theft from the women's shower room. Keep an eye out for a female that attempts to speak to you outside the locker room. Our sources have said that she is just trying to keep you occupied while her buddy inside finishes going through personal items.
