WISTER — Two local teams, the Pocola Indians and the Spiro Lady Bulldogs, responded to quarterfinal losses with strong performances Wednesday night in the 81st LeFlore County Tournament at the Wister High School gym.
Two others, the tournament-host Wister Wildcats and the Bokoshe Lady Tigers, had to go overtime before punching their tickets to Thursday night's consolation finals.
The Indians, who suffered a heartbreaking quarterfinal loss to Talihina on Tuesday, took their frustrations out on the Howe Lions in a 67-41 victory to make it to Friday's fifth-place game against Whitesboro, which will be at 5:30 today at the Wister gym.
The Lady Bulldogs, who let their quarterfinal game against the defending champion Howe Lady Lions get away Tuesday night, bounced back to down the Pocola Lady Indians 48-27 to reach Friday afternoon's fifth-place contest against Heavener, with tip-off set for 4 p.m. Friday at the Wister gym.
The ’Cats got past the Leflore Savages 53-48 in overtime to set up their Thursday consolation finals match-up with Arkoma.
The Lady Tigers, who were upset on opening night by Pocola, downed tournament-host Wister 67-58, also in OT, to reach Thursday afternoon's consolation finals against Whitesboro.
