TALIHINA — “There’s no place like home” is one of the famous lines from the classic movie, “The Wizard of Oz.” The Talihina High School basketball teams would certainly concur.
The Lady Golden Tigers and Tigers each won their respective Class 2A District Tournament title games Saturday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
Talihina’s girls routed the Canadian Lady Cougars 50-27 in their championship game, while the Tigers — who made the championship game with a 72-39 rout of Canadian on Friday night — rallied to down the Tushka Tigers 42-40 to claim their district title.
The Lady Golden Tigers (17-7), who snapped a two-game losing streak, will play Savanna at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on their home court in the Class 2A Regional Tournament. Another win will not only send the Talihina girls to the regional title game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, but will also qualify them for next week’s area tournament in Wilburton.
The Tigers (16-11) will face Wewoka at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Class 2A Regional Tournament on their home floor for the right to get to the 8 p.m. Saturday title game. Both the regional champion and runner-up will advance to next week’s area tournament in Wilburton.
