SALLISAW — The Poteau Pirates capped a perfect opening week of the 2013 season by routing the Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds 16-0 Friday afternoon.
The Lady Pirates put the game away with a 10-run first inning, thanks to a three-run home run by Shelby Standridge and a two-run homer by Sunnie McConnell. It was the first home run of the season for both players.
Hartshorne 10, Wister 2: In Hartshorne, trailing 2-0 in the third inning, the Lady Miners scored five runs in the third to take the lead for good at 5-2. Then, Hartshorne added three in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth to end the game by run rule.
Smithville 2, Whitesboro 1; Buffalo Valley 7, Whitesboro 2: In Whitesboro, the Lady Bulldogs (0-5) suffered a pair of losses on their home field Friday afternoon.
Monday games canceled due to wet fields
Two of Monday's match-ups, Howe and Gans at Sallisaw-Central and Pocola at Keota, were canceled due to wet fields. No make-up dates have been scheduled.
