A Panama man is dead, and his son is behind bars in connection with the slaying.
Arlen Buck Lockaby, 87, of Panama was found dead at his home on Williams Road on Friday evening after a family member went to check on him, according to LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale.
Seale said Lockaby's son, Tim Lockaby, 51, was at the home when deputies arrived.
“We questioned the son [Tim Lockaby], and there were inconsistencies with his stories and his statements,” Seale said. “We questioned him again and following the results of that interview [on Saturday], he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.”
Previous reports by news media that a gunshot wound was the cause of death have been confirmed as incorrect, Seale said.
Tim Lockaby was released from prison in 2007 after serving 15 years of a 35-year sentence for rape and child abuse, Seale said. He was not a registered sex offender, his conviction occurring before the registration law took effect.
Lockaby is being held in the LeFlore County Detention Center after being charged with first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held without bail.
