Cavanal Chorale was founded in 2008 by Brian Holloway, who wanted to establish an ensemble that would perform advanced-level choral repertoire of various genres. The first concert series was presented in July, 2008. To date, nine themed concerts series have been performed in local venues, plus the first production of the opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” which is planned as an annual event.
The membership of this choral organization includes singers from Poteau and surrounding communities who have been selected by audition. It is flexible, with previous members returning and/or the addition of new members. The nine charter members presently still in the Chorale are: Natlynn Hayes, Stacey Roberts, Joyce Woodruff, Rocky Rockman, Bill Sampson, Diane Adams, Jeff Mixon, Mary Ford and Noma Curtis.
Rehearsals are held weekly for 12 to 13 weeks prior to the performance of each series. Concerts are usually presented in May and November. The next series is scheduled for May 4-5, 2013.
Cavanal Chorale is the parent organization of the Treble Choir of Cavanal Chorale, an ensemble of unchanged voices. Students must be in third grade and up to audition.
Both choruses are affiliated with Oklahoma Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
