ARDMORE — It was quite a weekend for Heavener Lady Wolf runner Jodie Hill at the Class 3A State Meet, which took place at Ardmore High School's Noble Stadium.
Hill was third in both the 100-meter dash (12.57 seconds) and the 100-meter hurdles (16.08), while placing fifth in the 200-meter dash (26.92) to win three medals.
In her final state meet, Heavener's Laura Jo Allen placed sixth in the discus (107-0) to earn a medal.
One more senior, Aaron Turner, had the same honor as Allen, medaling in his final state meet. Turner, who will play college football with teammate Blake Smittle at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, placed sixth in the discus (124-10).
Other Heavener athletes and one Spiro athlete placed at state, but did not medal.
Heavener's Lexi Moody was ninth in the discus (101-4) and 12th in the shot put (32-3), while teammate Malory Lynch tied for 16th in the high jump (4-6). The Lady Wolves finished 11th in the team standings with 15 points. Beggs won the girls team state title with 96 points.
Philicea Mack, Spiro's lone state qualifier, placed 10th in the shot put (32-9).
On the boys side, Turner was seventh (44-7) and Bryce Tollison was 13th (42-4) in the shot put, while Joseph Walker was 12th in the discus (107-9) for Heavener.
Turner's sixth-place finish in the discus earned the Wolves a point in the team standings. Lincoln Christian edged Frederick by a point (70-69) to win the team state title.
Editor's note: In Friday's edition, Heavener's Bryce Tollison and Joseph Walker were accidentally omitted from the list of state meet qualifiers. The Poteau Daily News regrets the error.
