Lucian “Country Boy” Gassaway, 85, of Monroe died Wednesday July 10, 2013, in Tulsa.
Lucian was born on Jan. 21, 1928, in Sugar Loaf Community(Monroe) to Kenny and Mary (Gray) Gassaway. Lucian was the owner of Country Boy Furniture for 44 years, on the Board of Directors at The Community State Bank for nine years, enjoyed being a rancher, working in the rental business, residential and commercial, and even tried to sell a few monuments one time.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenny and Mary Gassaway; brothers, Hollis and Marvin Gassaway; and sisters, Dessie Billings, Sybil Robison and Eleanor Welsh.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sue Gassaway; three children, Lucian Gassaway Jr. of Poteau, Regina Gassaway of Weatherford, Texas, Natalie and husband Mike Scrimsher of Broken Arrow; five grandchildren, Hope, P.J, Jennifer, Hannah and Haven; four great-grandchildren; special caregiver, Danny Gray; and numerous other loved ones and friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Springhill Baptist Church in Monroe with the Revs. Bill Parker and Jim Cook officiating. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be G.W. “Dub” Evans Jr., Bryan Davis, Richard Swartz, Ronnie Benefield, Blake Dill and Larry Stacy. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Shrum, Earl Kendall and Art Drury.
The family will visit with relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau
