Two LeFlore County football teams will get their first game-like situation under their belts today as the Poteau Pirates and the Panama Razorbacks will each have their red-white interteam scrimmages today.
The Pirates will go at 7 tonight at Costner Stadium. The Poteau Quarterback Club will have burger baskets available at 6:30 p.m. for $4.50 and will also be selling its new T-shirts.
“The best thing about it is we'll get out here at night and get people out to watch,” second-year Poteau coach Greg Werner said. “For a lot of them, it's going to be a big evaluation period for us. We'll be able to see who's done what and see what they look like. This will be the first time we'll start making decisions who's going to go where, and who's going to be in the starting line-up. It's going to be a starting point for evaluation.”
The Hogs will have their interteam scrimmage at 11 this morning at George Ollie Stadium.
“We just want to work on the basics,” third-year Panama coach Brandon Ellis said. “All the kids have their basics down. We're concerned with getting them in the right formations. Defensively, we're wanting to be going to the ball, wrapping up and tackling. Offensively, I want to see if we can run hard and hold on to the ball. We just want to see the basics.”
