J.D. Johnson, 62, of Sand Springs, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, in Tulsa.
J.D. was born in Poteau to Orville Roscoe Johnson and Alma Beatrice (McCullough) Johnson on May 28, 1951. After high school he earned a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University. During the Vietnam War, J.D. served as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He worked for QuikTrip more than 35 years, retiring as personnel director for the Oklahoma operation.
He married Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Powers on Sept. 20, 1975, in Steele, Mo.
Surviving J.D. are his wife, Beth; daughters, Lori Irwin and husband David of Tulsa, and Nikki Johnson of Destin; sons, Ernie Stewart and fiancée Denise of Sand Springs and Brian Johnson and wife Andrea of Lahaina, Hawaii; nine grandchildren, Kayla, Katlyn, Kelsie, Paige, Jenna, Matthew, Kassidy, Elizabeth, Keating, and two more grandchildren about ready to join the family. He also is survived by his mother, Alma Johnson of Poteau; sister, Patricia Gilstrap and husband Bill of Poteau; brother, Don Johnson and wife Sandy of Muskogee. He was preceded in death by his father.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, in the Mobley-Dodson Funeral Home Chapel, Sand Springs, with the Rev. Richard Spilman officiating. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.
