If for some reason you missed opening night of action Sept. 5-6 in LeFlore County and didn't get to see some offense, Week 2 gave you a second chance.
For the second straight game, the Poteau Pirates scored 43 points, this time in a 43-40 comeback win over the Van Buren (Ark.) Pointers. For the record, the Pirates once again hit the 40-point mark, beating Tulsa Webster 46-6 Thursday night in Tulsa.
The Talihina Golden Tigers also hit the 40-point mark again in a 40-19 win over the Sallisaw junior varsity Thursday night at Doc Robinson Stadium.
The Pocola Indians got their first win of the season last week, scoring a whopping 73 points on Haileyville.
The Arkoma Mustangs opened District C-4 play in an offensive showcase, beating LeFlore County rival Bokoshe 66-28 — in a game totalling 94 points after opening the season in a 100-point game, and losing 62-38 to Keota.
I'm wondering if this is going to be a weekly trend?
Pigskin Picks Contest
Don't forget, readers, that for the second straight year, the Poteau Daily News is having a weekly Pigskin Picks Contest. Each Saturday edition, the ballot will be in the paper — in Saturday's (yesterday's) edition, the ballot is on Page 9A — for you to fill out and return to our office by the day we close on the first game day of that week. For example, this week's ballot you'll find with next week's games must be turned in by 5 p.m. Thursday since Tulsa's home game with Iowa State at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium is a Thursday night game.
The winner will receive $25, and the notification in print will always appear on the page with the next Pigskin Picks graphic. Good luck to all!
