The real season begins tonight when the Poteau Pirates will begin District 4A-4 play at 7:30 p.m. against archrival Sallisaw at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
The Pirates (3-0) look to end a six-game losing streak to the Black Diamonds (2-1).
“If it's going to be a rivalry game, we're going to have to start doing our part,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said. “We're going to have to start winning some of them if it's going to be a rivalry. It is a big game. We're 30 minutes apart, so that makes it a little bit bigger.”
To begin district play at 1-0 is very important to the Pirates.
“It's just a district game, and we need to win it to start our district play right,” Werner said. “If you win, you got a good start. If you lose, you're not out of it, but you'll have to fight uphill from there.”
