Two weeks ago, the Heavener Wolves played their first home football game of the season, getting past Roland 20-14 in overtime. The game was to have been their homecoming game, but since a lot of the ladies were trying to help the Lady Wolves softball team win the Class 3A Regional Tournament at Oktaha, homecoming festivities were moved to Thursday night's home game with the Spiro Bulldogs.
“We're going to see if we can win our second homecoming game,” Heavener coach Carl Lee said. “We won the first game. If we do that, I think we'll call every game homecoming.”
Spiro coach Chris Bunch is hoping that homecoming may be just enough of a distraction to get his Bulldogs over the top for a big district win.
“I'm hoping that their homecoming affects them the same way ours did [last week against Eufaula], he said.
“Usually, teams get up for homecoming games. I'm expecting a tough game."
The ’Dogs (5-1 overall, 3-0 in District 3A-8 play) and the Wolves (2-3, 1-2) meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Harvey Stadium. It not only will be Heavener's homecoming, but the Wolves will make it their “Pink-Out” game in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
