TULSA — The name's Bond ... Deven Bond.
Bond, one of four Poteau Lady Pirate cross country runners, won the Class 4A Regional Meet on Saturday afternoon at Oral Roberts University. She ran the two-mile course in 13:11.63.
The Lady Pirates had two regional medalists as fellow senior Haley Griggs was eighth (13:33.76).
The good news was the entire Poteau girls team made state as they finished fourth with 118 points, finishing behind regional champion Oklahoma City Heritage Hall (53 points), Tulsa Metro Christian (72) and Vinita (104).
Kayle Dryer was 34th (14:42.84), Sheridan Hoyer was 38th (14:49), Brittany Fox was 49th (15:09.32), Kaitlan Standridge was 51st (15:11.38) and Bailee Bates was 64th (15:40.47).
The news was not quite as good for the Pirates. While the entire team did not qualify for state, one senior Pirate did as Dylan Fox grabbed the fifth individual state-qualifying spot from the regional meet. Fox finished 28th overall and ran the 5,000-meter course in 19:12.43.
Arturo Medina was 62nd (20:57.64), followed by Carlos Panduro in 74th place (21:25.24), Ashby Clark in 76th place (21:38.02), Noah Martin in 78th place (21:39.39), Isaac Stacy in 98th place (22:50.54) and Edwin Espinoza in 107th place (24:20.58). The cutoff mark to make state as an individual was 19:14.
The Class 4A State Meet will begin at noon this Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe High School, located at 1901 W. 15th Street in Edmond.
