WILBURTON — The Howe Lions made sure it will be an all-LeFlore County title game Saturday night for the Gold Bracket title at the Eastern Oklahoma College Classic.
The Lions routed the Cave Springs Hornets 80-53 Thursday night in the championship semifinals at EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse.
The Lions (11-0) will meet the Leflore Savages (10-1) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at EOSC for the championship. The Savages got a bye into the championship game when Stuart did not return after the final three days of the EOSC Classic when it was canceled due to the wintry/icy weather earlier this month.
The Howe Lady Lions (9-1) will play for the girls title at 6 p.m. Saturday against Gans. Howe got a bye into the title game since Stuart's girls did not return.
The first county team to bring home hardware was the Leflore Lady Savages, who beat the Cave Springs Lady Hornets 61-44 Thursday afternoon in the Gold Bracket consolation finals at the Wilburton High School Gym. The match-up was originally a consolation semifinal, but the two teams on the other side of the bracket did not return.
The Whitesboro teams were slated to play in Blue Bracket third-place games on Friday, the girls against Smithville and the boys against Haileyville.
The Arkoma teams will meet Red Oak for the Blue Bracket titles Saturday afternoon at EOSC, with the girls game at 3 p.m., followed by the boys contest at 4:30 p.m.
