WISTER — The good news was the Wister High School basketball teams got to open play in the 82nd LeFlore County Tournament on their home floor. However, home cooking didn't work out for either team.
The Pocola Indians and the Panama Lady Razorbacks came to town and won tournament openers Monday night. The Indians prevailed 65-33 over the Wildcats, while the Lady ’Backs downed the Lady ’Cats 64-43 to advance to Tuesday night's championship quarterfinals.
Tuesday was the last day to see action at this site as both Wister teams tried to stave off elimination, the Wildcats against Bokoshe and the Lady ’Cats vs. Cameron, to reach today's consolation semifinals. The Wister-Bokoshe boys winner will meet Arkoma at 8:40 tonight at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
The Wister-Cameron girls winner will face Whitesboro at 4:40 this afternoon on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium in Talihina.
Two championship quarterfinals took place at this site on Tuesday night, Spiro's boys faced Leflore and the Lady Razorbacks met Arkoma. The winners will play in the championship semifinals later this week. The Spiro-Leflore winner will play the Pocola-Talihina winner at 7:20 p.m. Friday in Talihina, while the Panama-Arkoma winner will meet the Poteau-Talihina winner at 8:40 p.m. Thursday in Talihina.
The Spiro-Leflore loser will play at 8:40 tonight in Talihina against the Pocola-Talihina loser with the winner playing for fifth place at 6 p.m. Friday.
The Panama-Arkoma loser will play at 7:20 tonight in Talihina against the Poteau-Talihina loser for the right to battle for fifth place at 4:40 p.m. Friday in Talihina.
