TAHLEQUAH — The Howe Lions find themselves one win away from making next week's Class 2A State Tournament.
The Lions handled the Pocola Indians 75-56 in the regional tournament title game Saturday night in the third meeting between the two county schools
The Lions will meet the Preston Pirates at 8 p.m. Friday at the Muskogee Civic Center in the Class 2A Area Tournament for the right to make state. The loser will have a second shot at making state in the consolation finals at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The Indians will have to win three games in three days at the area tournament to make state. Pocola will meet county rival Talihina for the third time this season at 3 p.m. Thursday in the consolation quarterfinals.
The Lady Lions also lost the regional finals Saturday night, falling 67-32 to the Ketchum Lady Warriors. The Lady Lions, like the Indians, will have to win three times in three days to make state. First up for Howe's girls is a 1:30 p.m. match-up with Quinton in Thursday's consolation quarterfinals of the Class 2A Area Tournament.
However, the season ended for the Panama Lady Razorbacks, who lost 40-18 to the Colcord Lady Hornets in Saturday afternoon's Class 2A Regional Tournament consolation finals.
