The Heavener Lady Wolves and the Pocola Lady Indians were seeded No. 1 and No. 2 for this spring's LeFlore County Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament, which got underway Tuesday at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex. The seedings held true.
The Lady Wolves and the Lady Indians reached Thursday afternoon's winner's-bracket final at 5:15 p.m., with the winner playing for the county title at 7:45 p.m. Thursday. The if-game will begin at 9 p.m. if necessary.
Heavener got past Wister 11-8 in the winner's-bracket semifinal Tuesday night after handling Spiro 11-3.
Pocola had little problems making the winner's-bracket final, run ruling Cameron 16-0 and Whitesboro 11-1 to make it to within a win of the title game.
The defending champion Poteau Lady Pirates suffered a rare county tournament loss, falling 9-5 to Wister in the winner's-bracket quarterfinals, but they bounced back with wins over Talihina (9-0) and Spiro (14-0). They will play Whitesboro at 4 p.m. Thursday in the loser's-bracket quarterfinal.
Whitesboro and Wister each went 1-1. Whitesboro opened play with an 8-0 win over Panama in the winner's-bracket quarterfinals.
Cameron, which opened play with a 7-1 win over Arkoma, is in the same position as Poteau, playing in the consolation quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Thursday against Wister. The Lady Yellowjackets staved off elimination with a 7-4 win over Panama in Tuesday night's last game to get completed in a night of 14 games played. After losing to Pocola, Cameron eliminated Howe (11-4) before eliminating Panama.
Six teams were eliminated on Tuesday — Leflore (which forfeited out of the tournament due to lack of players), Arkoma, Howe, Talihina, Spiro and Pamama. Arkoma, Howe and Talihina each went 0-2.
Arkoma lost 5-1 to Spiro after losing to Cameron, Howe lost 12-8 to Spiro before falling to Cameron and Talihina lost 12-0 to Panama before being shut out by Poteau.
The Poteau-Whitesboro winner will play the Cameron-Wister winner in the loser's-bracket semifinal at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, with the winner meeting the Heavener-Pocola loser at 6:30 p.m. in the loser's-bracket final.
