Gene Ray Ward, 72, of Heavener died Thursday, April 10, in Heavener.
Gene was born Feb. 9, 1942, in Bates, Ark., to Clyde and Edna (Dedmon) Ward.
Gene was a graduate of Waldron High School and attended Arkansas Tech University. He was a cattleman and was in the livestock auction business since 1962. He was an owner of Poor Boy Livestock Auction for almost 30 years from 1980-2009. Gene was saved and baptized at Bates, Ark., and attended the First Baptist Church of Heavener.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carolyn; three daughters and sons-in-law, Shelby Frost and Jack of Wister, Skyla Duncan and Hugh of Heavener, Jackie Ryals and Glyn of Tahlequah; four sons and daughters-in law, Shannon Ward and Sarah of Heavener, Shawn Ward and Jodi of Poteau, Geno Blackwell and Tina of Heavener, Bud Vinson and Jacki of Wilburton; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous friends and other relatives. Gene was blessed with numerous ranchers and business associates over the years that he considered family.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 14, at First Baptist Church with Brothers Sam Dyer, Bud Vinson and the Rev. LeRoy Billy officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Pallbearers will be Phil Hatridge, Eugene Dedmon, Junior Statham, Jimmy Booth, Don Craig, Hicks Hoffman, Kenneth Neville and Danny Goldsborough
Honarary pallbearers will be his “grandsons,” Glen Ray Frost, Darrin Frost, Justin Frost, Eddie Gene Blackwell, Noah Ward, Ladd Vinson, Chris Duncan, Dusty Ryals, Chance Ryals, Cody Ryals and Ward Vinson.
Viewing will be 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.
The family asks that consideration is given to donating to the building fund at the Heavener First Baptist Church or to Gideon’s International in Gene’s memory.
Gene stipulated that everyone please “Come as you are.”
