The Poteau and Heavener high school cross country runners got a preseason tune-up for this upcoming season at Saturday morning's Poteau Preseason Practice Meet at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex. Joining the locals were the Haworth Lions and Lady Lions.
In the boys' division, Haworth won the meet with 21 points, with Poteau second (40 points).
Daniel Stacy was the highest placer for the host Pirates as he was third (15:33). Nico Hall was fifth (15:37), Bobby Graham was 11th (17:27), Josh Anderson was 13th (18:10), Tyler White was 14th (18:19), Wesley Reeves was 15th (19:24), Daryl Callaway was 17th (19:48), Noah Martin was 18th (19:49), Hong Siu was 19th (19:50), Will Longenbaugh was 20th (20:01), Kendell Smith was 22nd (21:44), Trey Wells was 23rd (22:52), Bobby Elkins was 24th (25:50) and Jeff Ridner was 25th (25:51).
The Wolves had only two runners, Dakota McGee was seventh (15:53), while Arturo Ortega was ninth (17:16).
In the girls' division, Poteau and Haworth went toe to toe, with the Lady Lions nipping the Lady Pirates by a single point — 27 for Haworth and 28 for Poteau.
For Poteau, Deven Bond was runner-up (10:36), Sheridan Hoyer was fourth (10:54), Colleen Peterson was ninth (11:27), Samantha Galetka was 11th (11:57), Shandee Staton was 13th (12:23), Katie Piguet was 14th (12:26), Tabby Waldrop was 16th (12:56), Kaeli Lovell was 18th (13:51) and Jenna Stites was 19th (14:17).
Just as in the boys' meet, Heavener had two girls run — sort of. Coming in seventh was Kayle Dryer, who runs on the Greenwood, Ark., team and is the cousin of Heavener runner Johna Enger, with a time of 11:15. Enger was five seconds behind her in eighth with a time of 11:20.
