KEOTA — The Spiro Lady Bulldogs got their season off to a fine start by winning the Keota Invitational Saturday night with a 9-1 win over the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers. It was the second time the Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Golden Tigers in the tournament as they defeated them in the winner's-bracket final 10-0 earlier in the day.
Spiro (4-0) posted a win over Keota on Friday before beating Talihina in the winner's-bracket final.
The Lady Golden Tigers bounced back from the winner's-bracket loss to Spiro with a 5-0 victory over Stigler in the loser's-bracket final — which was the second time they had beaten the Lady Panthers in the tournament as they posted a 6-5 victory.
The Howe Lady Lions split their final two games of the tournament, beating McCurtain 7-5 Friday afternoon, then lost 6-2 to tournament-host Keota on Saturday.
Like Howe, Pocola also split its final two games of the event, beating Arkoma 9-0 but losing 11-4 to Stigler.
Arkoma's loss to Pocola was its second in as many games after winning its season opener last Tuesday. Before losing to the Lady Indians, the Lady Mustangs lost 8-2 to Keota.
