The trio of families, the Adamses, the Midgleys and the Wickwares, loaded up and headed to Lake Eufaula on Saturday.
We started over at Eufaula Cove and went to Jellystone Park. They have a “Wipeout Course” out there in the cove, and it's harder than it looks! I was out of breath just after my first pass. They had a huge slide and water trampoline, too!
It costs just $10, and you get to do all the following — paddle boats, kayaking, putt-putt, shuffleboard, swimming, arcade and — my favorite — the snack bar. It's a real cool place to take the kids and have a blast.
We left Jellystone and drove around the lake to Brooken Cove by the dam. We landed the pontoon boats, and we headed a couple of miles across the lake to “Party Island.” They have miles of sandy beaches. We got there, and we set up our base camp right next to my trusty Oklahoma State people. They are there every weekend.
“Lookin' Down the Barrel” Columnist George Midgley brought his grill and was our “weekend chef.” He cooked brats and hot dogs.
After our cookout, we went innertubing over by “'Steelman Cove,” right below Gary and Rhonda Steelman's cabin. We all stayed on the beach and watched the sunset. I pulled the kids back all the way across the lake on the innertube one last time.
We got home about 11 p.m., and I was so tired — but it felt great!
