The Poteau Pirates will get their first taste of competition on the gridiron tonight when they will be in a three-way scrimmage at Catoosa with the host Indians and Tulsa Memorial beginning at 5 p.m.
“We're excited about this,” Poteau Coach Jeff Broyles said. “Scrimmages are basically dress rehearsals in getting us ready for the season. This will be a good test for us. Catoosa went to the (Class 4A state) semifinals last year, and they're supposed to be a solid club once again. What I like about scrimmaging them is that they're in the (Class 4A) district up north, and they're the ones we cross bracket with in the opening round of the playoffs. We'll get a good look at them, and possibly see what future opponents might be like.”
