Football season is finally here! High schools and colleges across the country will be butting helmets tonight and Saturday. The Poteau Pirates will open their season at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Costner Stadium agains the Checotah Wildcats.
The Poteau Bandits (the third-fourth grade and fifth-sixth grade teams) will travel to play Sallisaw beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday. For a lot of these players, this will be their first football game, which is both exciting and frustrating.
The first National Football League game will be Thursday night when the New Orleans Saints will visit Lambeau Field to play my beloved Green Bay Packers. My menu for the game will consist of hot wings (of course), a Mexican cornbread cassarole, grilled smoked sausage (I dream in smoked sausage), chili-glazed meatballs, Frito chili pie and chips and dip from LaHuerta's. Then, for dessert, a hickory-smoked pork butt — yummy!
Oh, yeah! — I take my football watching seriously! I bring it up to “The He-Man Level” at “The Adams Compound.”
I would like to try Laurie Thomas' fish tacos sometime, too. I never thought I'd hear fish and tacos in the same sentence, but the word on the street is that they're some kind of good.
