After four weeks, the Talihina Golden Tigers will finally get to play a District 2A-6 contest. The Golden Tigers (4-0, 0-0 in district play), ranked 10th in the Class 2A Poll, will entertain the Panama Razorbacks (0-4, 0-1) at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Doc Robinson Stadium.
With the set-up of District 2A-6 having only seven teams, it means that each team has four non-district games on its schedule. It just so happened that Talihina got the luck of getting all four of its non-District 2A-6 contests in the first four weeks of the regular season. Now, the Golden Tigers are ready for the real season to commence.
“We got our four non-district games out of the way,” Talihina Coach Kelly Gravitt said. “We won them all. Now, we need to concentrate on district play from here on. The kids did a great job last week getting a win over Antlers (by a score of 41-6). They're ready to go into district play now.”
As for the ’Backs, they just keep hoping that each night will provide an end to the losing streak by the end of the fourth quarter.
“Each week, we're fighting to get that first win,” first-year Panama Coach Brandon Ellis said. “It would be sweet to have it come against the defending district champs. We have to continue to work hard, and correct our mistakes. Eventually, we'll correct them all.”
