The Poteau Lady Pirates softball team took the first step in making it to next week's Class 4A State Tournament.
The Lady Pirates handled the Stilwell Lady Indians 8-3 Wednesday afternoon to make it to Wednesday night's winner's-bracket final against the Fort Gibson Lady Tigers (25-10), who defeated the Broken Bow Lady Savages 7-0 in Game 2 Wednesday afternoon.
“It was a long wait,” Poteau Coach Misty Collins said.
The winner of Wednesday night's Poteau-Fort Gibson game will advance to this afternoon's title game at 2 p.m., with the if-game at 4 p.m.
The first team to be eliminated from the regional tournament was the Lady Savages (24-11), who lost 8-3 to the Lady Indians (20-15).
Stilwell will play the Poteau-Fort Gibson loser at noon this afternoon, with the winner meeting the Poteau-Fort Gibson winner for the regional title — and a trip to state.
