OKLAHOMA CITY — There were many naysayers out in the Oklahoma high school softball world which doubted the Panama Lady Razorbacks would be the one team holding the Class 2A State Tournament championship trophy Saturday afternoon at Hall of Fame Stadium. But holding the trophy they were.
The Lady ’Backs, behind the pitching of Taylor Eaves, blanked the Oktaha Lady Tigers 1-0 in the Class 2A State Tournament title game.
“We had a goal at the start of the year,” Panama Coach Grant Ralls said. “It was one of those things that you had to believe, and these girls believed. The longer we went (into the season), we kept getting better. About LeFlore County Tournament time (Sept. 12-15 at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex, in which the Lady Razorbacks were runners-up to Poteau), we started peaking — and believing. When you get believing you can win, you can do a lot of things. They really did an outstanding job. They got after it. They didn't come in here and get shook up. That's what it was all about. They got the goal they wanted to get.”
