POCOLA — Last week, the Heavener Wolves, for the second straight season, got a forfeited win over the Tahlequah Tigers junior varsity, which canceled out on them for their Week 8 game.
This week, the Pocola Indians found out what that's like.
The Indians had their Week 9 game tonight on the road against the Stigler Panthers JV canceled because the Panthers want to keep all their players healthy for their big District 3A-8 game Friday night against the Valliant Bulldogs. So, the Indians will get a bye this week instead of playing somebody — which may not be all that bad according to Pocola Coach Rick Lang.
“We have a bye week, and we really need it,” Lang said. “In a way, I'm glad we don't have a game, and it gives us an extra week to get prepared for Heavener. But I would have liked to have played to keep the kids continuing to play. Being off a week will give the other team an advantage because they will get that extra game. But we're going to make the best out of it. We're going to do what we can, and use these extra days to get ready for Heavener.”
