Last season when the Vian Wolverines visited Doc Robinson Stadium to take on the Talihina Golden Tigers, it was one of the biggest games in the state, let alone LeFlore County. The match-up determined the 2010 District 2A-6 champion.
This year when the Golden Tigers (5-4, 1-4 in district play) visit Class 2A's fourth-ranked Wolverines (9-0, 5-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, it will just be pride on the line as the game will be the last for Talihina this season since the playoffs are out of reach. But an upset of Vian would do wonders for the team.
“It would be big,” Talihina Coach Kelly Gravitt said. “There's only one team who wins their last game of the year, if you're in the playoffs. If you're not, and you can win your last game of the regular season, it would be big. If we can win that last one, it would be a great way to go into the off-season. But we have to have everything go just right.”
