VAN BUREN, Ark. — The host Van Buren (Ark.) Pointers proved to be too much for the Poteau Pirates in their season opener Tuesday night in the Citizens Bank Classic with a 64-39 victory.
The Pirates (1-0) played Wednesday night in the consolation semifinals against Morrilton, Ark., with the winner playing for the consolation championship at 2:30 p.m. Saturday while the loser will play for seventh place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Pocola 55, Stigler 47: In Stigler, down 14-11 after one period, the Indians (1-0) outscored the Panthers 22-8 in the second quarter to take a 33-22 halftime lead.
Wister 74, McCurtain 69: In McCurtain, the Wildcats (3-3) trailed 33-27 at halftime, but outscored the Bulldogs 47-36 in the second half to get the come-from-behind victory.
Gans 48, Arkoma 42: In Arkoma, the Grizzlies (1-0) jumped out to a 15-7 lead after one period and pretty much kept that lead throughout.
Kinta 76, Bokoshe 9: In Kinta, the Eagles jumped out to a 23-0 lead after a quarter. Chance Crase's 3-point basket in the second quarter put the Tigers (0-3) on the scoreboard.
Antlers 54, Talihina 28: In Antlers, the Bearcats jumped out to a 10-2 lead after one period and never looked back.
