The young felines from Howe came out much like their bigger sisters, the varsity Lady Lions, and dominated the Roland Lady Rangers by the score of 30-14 in the opening round of the Poteau Freshmen Tournament Tuesday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
However, the news was not as great for the host Lady Pirates, as they lost 32-24 in the other opening round game on Tuesday.
In boys' games, Roland defeated Sallisaw 49-36, while Fort Gibson routed Stigler 66-32.
The Lady Lions will play Fort Gibson at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the championship semifinal with the winner playing for the title at 3 p.m. Saturday, while the loser will be in the third-place game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Lady Pirates will play Roland at 4 p.m. this afternoon in the consolation semifinals for the chance to play in Saturday's consolation championship game at 11 a.m.
In the girls' bracket on Wednesday, Heavener was to play Wister in the consolation semifinals for the right to play in Saturday's consolation championship at 11 a.m., while Wilburton and Muldrow played in the championship semifinals — with the winner playing for the championship at 3 p.m. Saturday, while the loser vying for third place at 1 p.m. Saturday.
In boys' consolation semifinals, Poteau was to have played Muldrow, while Sallisaw faced Stigler. The winners will vie for the consolation championship at noon Saturday.
There will be no games on Friday.
