QUINTON — The Poteau Pirates wrestling team rebounded from Tuesday night's dual loss at Vian with a 51-30 victory over the Quinton Savages Thursday night.
The Pirates (10-5) won nine matches, six of which came by pinfall. Tyler Tustin (132 pounds), Tanner Sanders (145), Dakota Hornbuckle (152), Khy Mote (160), Trevin Smith (170) and Derek Francis (180) all recorded pins.
Will Longenbaugh (126 pounds) won by decision, while Devin Anderson (113) and Chevy Galetka (195) got forfeits.
“We had a good showing,” second-year Poteau Coach Chris Barbee said. “The kids wrestled good and hard. We're happy with the win, and we're wanting to see if we can't carry this momentum into this weekend's tournament.”
The Pirates will be in the Cushing Tournament this weekend before two road dates. They will wrestle the Stilwell Indians at 7 p.m. Tuesday, then be part of a triangular at Fort Smith (Ark.) Southside with Union Christian Academy, Ark., at 7 p.m. Thursday.
