Last week, I talked about how excited I was for the 80th annual LeFlore County Tournament, and now it's over for another 51 weeks. Boy, does time fly when you're having fun!
There were a lot of close games. We crowned new champions, Howe's girls and Spiro's boys.
But there are a couple of things I'd like to point out from my perspective. First off, I want to give my kudos out to all the young men and women who sang national anthemns during last week's event. It was capped off by Wister High School student Candice Yochum singing the national anthemn prior to the two championship games Saturday night at the Spiro Gym.
For fans who saw a lot of games at the Spiro Gym this past week, they heard several ensembles and individuals from Spiro High School.
You all did a great job, and it's glad to see that we don't forget to sing to “Old Glory,” she means so much to this great country.
The second thing is a more personal one for me. Not just because I don't have the monetary assets of someone like a Donald Trump, but I guess any human likes to get free things. Well, I'm no different. At all three sites of action — host Bokoshe, Spiro and Heavener — during last week's County Tournanment, there were hospitality rooms for adminstrators and coaches — and, yes, even the media — to partake of the great food which was either prepared by workers of Bokoshe Public Schools or even local/area restaurants, such as Wild Horse Barbecue from Sallisaw, which catered during the finals on Saturday night. Yes, I have high cholesterol and I need to lose weight, but I was not about to turn down free food. I just want to say the food was great, and a word of thanks to all the great hands which prepared it — it was a job well done!
