Four LeFlore County high school football players were honored by being named to the Three Rivers Oklahoma Football Team by “Vype” magazine.
Spiro's K.J. Booze made the first team defense as a defensive back, while three Poteau Pirates — Wilson Klutts (punting), Jace Pitchford (wide receiver) and Jesse Woodson (defensive back) — made the second team.
Booze, who was named to the 2012 All-State East Football Team, had 34 tackles, two interceptions and three pass knockdowns on defense for the Bulldogs last season. Offensively, he caught 35 passes for 407 yards and five touchdowns, while rushing for 533 yards on 115 carries and scoring five more TDs.
Although Klutts, a senior, made the second team on punting, it was his quarterbacking which shined for the Pirates last season. Klutts, who re-wrote the Poteau High School quarterbacking records, threw for 2,346 yards and 24 touchdowns, while rushing for 337 yards and five TDs. He was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year in District 4A-4.
Pitchford was among Class 4A's top receivers as he hauled in 35 catches for 567 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed 21 times for 61 yards. Defensively, he had seven tackles.
Woodson, who was a member of the All-District 4A-4 Team, recorded 53 tackles, of which 30 were solo, to go with one QB sack, six interceptions, a fumble recovery and two caused fumbles. But he also had some offensive statistics as well. He caught 31 passes for 517 yards — also among the best in Class 4A — and seven TDs. He also had one punt return for 40 yards and 11 kickoff returns for 255 yards — including a 93-yarder.
