The basketball postseason has arrived for the large high schools in LeFlore County as district tournaments will begin tonight and Saturday night.
The Poteau Lady Pirates and Pirates will be in the Class 4A District Tournament against Hilldale Saturday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. The girls' game will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys' contest at 8 p.m. All four teams will advance to Thursday's Class 4A Regional Tournament at Roland.
It marks the second straight year the Poteau teams got to be home for their district tournament. Last year, they swept the district titles in front of the home fans.
Both Class 3A District Tournaments for LeFlore County teams will take place tonight. Heavener will head up U.S. 59 to the town of Kansas, while Spiro will travel down Oklahoma State Highway 9 westward to Eufaula. Game times will be at 6:30 p.m. (girls) and 8 p.m. (boys) tonight.
Class 2A District Tournaments will begin tonight because of a first — three-team districts, which means tonight are make-or-break games for local teams in action.
At the Class 2A District Tournament in Panama, the Pocola Lady Indians will play the Gore Lady Pirates at 6:30 p.m. tonight, followed by a battle of archrivals as the host Razorbacks will meet the Pocola Indians at 8 p.m. tonight. The losers will see their seasons end.
However, the winners will advance to Saturday night's title games. The Pocola-Gore winner will meet the Panama Lady Razorbacks at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by the Pocola-Panama winner facing the Gore Pirates at 8 p.m. All four teams playing on Saturday will advance to the Class 2A Regional Tournament Thursday at the Howe Gym.
Another Class 2A District Tournament will take place in Wister. The host Lady Wildcats will meet Fort Towson at 6:30 p.m. tonight, followed by the Howe Lions playing Fort Towson at 8 p.m. The winners will advance, while the losers will see their seasons end.
Saturday night will be championship night as the Wister-Fort Towson winner will meet the Howe Lady Lions at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the girls' title, while the Howe-Fort Towson winner will face the host ’Cats at 8 p.m. for the boys' crown. All four winners will also advance to the Class 2A Regional Tournament in Howe.
The last Class 2A District Tournament for a LeFlore County teams will take place beginning tonight in Warner. The Talihina Golden Tigers will meet the host Warner Eagles at 8 p.m. tonight in an elimination game, with the winner facing Summit Christian at 8 p.m. Saturday for the district championship. Both of Saturday night's teams will advance to the Class 2A Regional Tournament beginning Thursday at Warner.
The Talihina Lady Golden Tigers received the bye on the girls' side at the Warner site. They will meet the winner of tonight's elimination game between host Warner and Summit Christian at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the district title. Talihina's girls and their Saturday night opponent will both advance to next week's Class 2A Regional Tournament at Warner.
