If you have not got your National Wild Turkey Federation Banquet tickets for next Thursday, then come see my wife at The Poteau Daily News, or go see Don Chitwood or Russell Barber. There are sponsor opportunities, and other ways, you can become involved in this very worthy cause —- even if you can’t attend the banquet. Give these guys a call, and they can tell you all about it!

Baseball season is just around the corner but Wister Coach John McAlester will have to wait a little longer to get his season started because most of the baseball boys are in the Class 2A Area basketball tournament tonight at Wilburton. They are playing Porter Consolidated in the consolation side of the bracket, and need to win three games in a row to make it to the Class 2A State Tournament. Good luck, boys!

Fishing time is here, and the several days of warm weather in a row has those fish biting pretty good. I have talked to several people who have been crappie fishing at Wister Lake over the last couple of months, and they have been tearing them up.
Nathan Janway has been catching some good crappies below the dam on jigs and is going back this weekend. I may go with him for a few hours on Saturday morning, although the last two fishing trips I have planned ended up in a bust with the weather not cooperating. I may just sleep in, so I will not ruin the fishing for everyone else.
Shannon Lacy and Russell Broussard have fished below the dam and up into the lake since the first of January and have caught more than 700 crappie on minnows and jigs. One week alone, they caught more than 200!
Russell fried up some of the crappie along with some hush puppies and brought them over to our house one evening. It was sure tasty.
The last fishing outing was last Sunday when Chuck Restine and I headed up to Lake Eufaula. I got my first experience using an Alabama Rig. That is a new item that is sweeping the world of bass fishing that allows you to use five swimbaits at once. and mimics a small school of shad.
The wind was horrible, and we only caught one fish before giving up and calling it a day before noon. I am going to get started fishing a little more here pretty soon if I can find time between baseball and scouting for turkey season.
Have a great week!
