Catherine Alice Rockwell Gann, 81, of Tahlequah died Friday March 2, 2012.
Catherine was born Oct. 7, 1930, at Heavener. On Nov. 4, 1954, she married Raymond L. Gann, her husband of 56 years.
Catherine Alice was a registered nurse and spent many years with hospitals in Muskogee, Wagoner, Tahlequah, Fort Smith, Ark., Springfield, Mo., Boston, Mass., and Anchorage, Alaska. She also served as a public health nurse with the Cherokee County Health Department and an instructor of nursing for the Cherokee Nation. Many of Catherine’s interests centered around her love of books and research and she authored/co-authored paperback books on her family history and Heavener Railroading. Catherine was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Gann; sister, Patsy Freeman of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother William Rockwell of Heavener; and parents, George Henry Rockwell and Gertie Belle Blanche Vaughn Rockwell of Heavener.
Survivors include children, Lorna Gibbs and David of Tahlequah, Thomas Gann and Debbie of Inola, and William Gann and Brenda of Poteau; one sister, Barbara Phipps and husband Clinton Phipps of Hodgen; sisters-in-law Elsie Smith of Muskogee, Lola Hughes and husband Charles of Okay, Bonnie Taylor of Syracuse, N.Y., and Carolyn Dufrene and husband Larry of Pineville, La.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 at Heavener Memorial Cemetery in Heavener. Burial is under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
